Joey Barton or Wayne Rooney? Your Choice
Tue, 05/15/2012 - 12:47 — Lorraine Marx
Anger in Football hits the Headlines again. It seems Joey Barton is having trouble controlling his emotions on the pitch. Football is all good clean fun, or is it? Lets look at the triggers for Anger:
One of our triggers for Anger is the Loss of a Personal Goal (excuse the Pun!). When we are involved in Team games such a Football, tensions run high. Why? Because we all want to win, we all want goals to be scored and our team come home with the Trophy. No more so than the professionals who are paid to deliver the goods and that puts a lot of stress on their shoulders (Trigger number 2). So add to the already competitive nature of the game the ££££'s that are invested in these guys to perform and you can understand why outbursts occur on the field. It may be that something caused him to be angry long before he was on the pitch (Trigger no3) ... Are you getting the picture yet?
I could go on all day, but the fact remains that highly paid Footballers would do well to conduct themselves in a professional manner as their outbursts are witnessed by all. Whether they like it or not they are viewed a icons to their young fans and are role models for many youngsters. As Mike Fisher says in the Guardian today - be responsible like Wayne Rooney sort it out Joey!! - see the relevant clip below:

JEALOUS MAN 'FLIPPED OUT' IN DRUNKEN RAGE
Wed, 04/25/2012 - 15:05 — Lorraine Marx
Elliot Turner 20, 'flpped out' and killed Emily Longley in a drunken rage after suspecting she might have been cheating on him, yesterday's Telegraph reports. Miss Longley loved him but wanted him to 'Stop being so controlling'. Mr Turner said his anger had been building up for months, he was jealous, possessive and suspicious.
I wonder how many of our clients have had some or all of these feelings at one time or another? Sadly it is a fact that anger, if not dealt with will continue to build. Mr Turner was unable to control himself due to his alcohol consumption and the anger that he had felt for some time finally exploded with tragic consequences. We often hear that clients cannot afford our courses, but think about this for a moment......
What has your anger cost you already and what may it cost you in the future if you don't take action to look at the source of your angry outbursts. Please, if you feel you can relate to some or all of these feelings and your anger is out of control, call me for a confidential, non-judgemental chat on 0345 505 4850.
Happy 13th Birthday To Us - Come And Join The Party

Anger in it’s varying degrees is constantly in the media at the present.
- Anger in personal relationships (James Kerr and Matthew Johnstone, the Daily Mail)
-
The independent reporting the betrayal felt by domestic violence victims on the 3 March (Financial constraints means the closing of sheltered accommodation for DV victims).
-
Sky news highlights the proposed ‘trial’ that will allow Men and women to be given the right to ask police if their partner has a history of domestic violence.
60% of attendees to our programmes recognise that their anger stems from their personal relationships – either with partners or children 20% directly relate their stress to professional relationships 90% of those receiving treatment reported having being bullied at some stage and have gone on to victimise others 95% of those in attendance suffer from shame disorders where they believe that something is wrong with themselves – or, in simpler terms, that they are broken
There is no doubt that these statistics are bleak, demonstrating what a huge concern anger and stress are in the UK and what a large percentage of our population these disorders are affecting.
Things are looking very scary out there, but hope is at hand if you are living on the South Coast. “Beating Anger Portsmouth” BAAM’s local clinic are offering free Taster Sessions throughout April to support anyone suffering from anger related issues. I am passionate about helping people whose lives are affected by anger, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss how I can help you. (Lorraine 0345 5054850)
'Foaming Mad' - The Cost of your Anger
Thu, 11/24/2011 - 12:53 — Lorraine Marx
How would you feel if your local DIY store refused to give you a refund for a faulty can of foam? Would you get angry, or could you walk away? The Daily Telegraph reports that customer Paul (45) exorcised his anger, by spraying the faulty foam can in the store. Clearly out of control, he then assulted the store manager Mr Knowles and a female Police Officer. The final cost to Mr Waterland ........ 200 hours of unpaid community work and a supervison order. What was the trigger for the angry episode? The customer's sense of unfairness, his need to be respected, his need to be heard? The cause for this angry episode may have started days earlier with something totally unrelated, the can of foam was simply the final straw that broke the camels back. How does Mr Waterland feel now? I can only imagine he wishes he had just purchased another can, so much cheaper than the final price of his anger. Remember anger doesn't go away, eventually it will explode if you don't deal with it. SORT IT before it's too late.
Merchant Seaman attacked by Naval Rating

I was shocked to read the article in the Portsmouth Evening News (13/8/10) regarding the Sailor attacking Sam Wait, though sadly not surprised to read the list of shame. It is such a tragedy when a young person's life is effected by such an act of stupidity.

As well as specialising in Anger Management, I have also been trained by ADDACTION with regard to substance mis-use. I understand how alcohol causes young people to act more aggressively and in ways they would not consider if they were sober.
Please look at the article and judge for yourself. I feel we have a huge problem that needs to be tackled, so............ if you feel you need help, or maybe this article has provoked a reaction in you, please let us know your point of view, or contact us on the number provided.

Anger Management is an area that Lorraine is passionate about and she feels she has a considerable amount of life experience that supports her whilst working in this challenging area.
